There are no prizes except a little award if you verify enough words. We also largely utilize the honor system. AugNoWriMo is a contest for yourself: do you have what it takes to stick to a goal and produce that amount of words in 31 days? We think you do. Honest.

1. Pick a word count. Yes, any word count you can dream of. Then, introduce yourself in the goal thread that your word count fits into. Check out our forums to do this. Be sure to tell everyone what your goal is because if you don't, there's no way to check if you've "won" or not. Continuous goal boosting is only allowed in large amounts. For example, if you start out with a goal of 5,000 words for the month of August, but a few days into the month, know that you're going to surpass that, feel free to raise your goal, but the smallest increment you may increase or decrease your goal is by 5,000 words.

2. Most forms of prose writing are able to be counted toward your word count. Things that do not count are: Co-authored works, poetry or lyrics, and scripts or screenplays. Works in progress (WIP's) are 100% okay for AugNo; don't stress over starting a new work for August. Save the ideas for November.

3. All of the words do not have to come from a single work. You can jump between pieces, or write a handful of short stories if you'd like. Just remember that everything has to be copied into one file at verification time.

4. Be respectful. The other Moderators and I don't want to deal with petty arguments. If you have problems with other members, don't settle them on the boards--take them elsewhere (but not into the non-internet world because that's creepy), or just be mature and ignore the problematic other-person. If things get too out of hand, all members involved will be banned. Simple as that.

5. Be honest. There are ways to cheat verification and they're fairly easy to figure out, however I wouldn't recommend partaking in any of them. No, we're not going to call you out or even know, so you'll get away with everything you pull. The only person you're hurting by lying is yourself, so it's your call if you want to cheat yourself.
